Beddington boxer Charlie Edwards continued his unbeaten run on Saturday night and will now fight for the English title.

The flyweight was upbeat as he recorded his fourth consecutive win, outpointing Spanish southpaw Juan Hinostroza over six rounds at Manchester’s MEN arena.

Despite not having everything his own way, Edwards, who turned pro in October last year, still claimed a 60-54 decision.

He said: “It was a great fight and I fought a very game opponent.

“Every fight is a learning curve and is a good experience for me.

“My opponent had never fought a British fighter before and at 30 he was going to be no pushover.

“I started the fight really well. He came forward a lot and I got him down in the first with a nice uppercut. He caught me in the fifth and I felt it, but I got back to my boxing and boxed superbly after that.”

Now, in only his fifth professional bout, Edwards will fight for the English title against Louis Norman on September 12.

He said: “I’m buzzing to be fighting for the English title so early in my career, I’ve always wanted this fight and I am so glad it has been finalised.

“Louis Norman is the current champion and he’s unbeaten.

“I’ve watched a few of his fights and he’s a good boxer, but nothing more. His style will suit me and let me show off my ability.

“I’m always training hard and am ready to fight now.”

He added: “I will fly out to Marbella at the end of August to finish my camp and will even spar with Jamie Conlan, the European super flyweight champion.”

The 22-year-old works with Eddie Hearn, promoter of Matchroom Boxing, and has now fought on big cards in London, Sheffield and Manchester, all shown on Sky Sports.

Edwards said: “I’m having a great time working for Matchroom.

“They’re the best boxing outfit in the country and they give boxers a great platform to fight on.

“Eddie and Barry Hearn have been so helpful to me and they like the way I box, so I want to continue to impress by winning my first title.”
