Croydon Harriers suffered heartbreaking relegation in the UK Youth Development U20s and U17s Southern Premier Division Two on Sunday at Croydon Arena.

Needing at least a fourth in the six-club match to offer any hope of survival going into next month’s final fixture, the hosts placed sixth for the third successive match.

Despite this however, there were still a number of positive performances from those who present particularly from Croydon’s sprinters.

Daniel Luke picked up a double win in the U20 men’s 100m (11.17secs) and 200m (22.39secs), while Patrick Lucas triumphed in the 400m (51.37secs).

In the U17 section, last year’s English Schools 100m champion Tyrese Johnson-Fisher won the 100m (11.00secs) with Chuks Ajeh (11.18secs) making it an event maximum.

On the field, Sam Haswell leapt to a new lifetime best in the pole vault of 3.70m.

In the throws, Omar Reid was a part of two event maximums, firstly winning the U20 men’s discus (43.41m) alongside Giacomo Spagnoli (32.67m), and then winning the B shot putt in 11.47 to back up David Olajiga’s 13.49m in the A event.

In the women’s section, Chrissy-Marie Nangban was a convincing winner in the U17 women’s 300m in 42.99secs, and was well supported by Naomi Hoosang-Robinson in 44.09secs.

Recent English Schools selectee Sophie Elliss won the 80m hurdles in 11.61secs, and Sonyce Archer was a clear victor in the B race in 12.89secs.

There were two relay wins which came in the U17 women’s 4x100m in 50.1secs and the U20 men’s 4x400m team recorded the fastest time by a Croydon quartet in this age group in many years to win in 3:30.51.

At the British Miler’s Club meeting at Eltham, Dom Nolan (1:54.58) and Kieron Connor (1:57.6) set new lifetime bests in 800m.

Loughborough student Nolan then travelled to Watford on Saturday and clocked 3:55.51 to move to 16th on the club’s all-time rankings for the 1,500m.

In parkrun action, there were two first’s for Harrier athletes. Jake English was first at Crystal Palace and Glenn Barden matched that feat at Harlow.
