Lahore Karahi was established in 1995.
Though the bright neon spilling onto the pavement beckons you from Tooting High Street, spiritually speaking, the Lahore Karahi is in the curry gulch of Upper Tooting Road.
It’s busy place and behind a counter equipped with numerous bains-marie stand rows of cooks, distinguishable by their natty Lahore Karahi baseball caps, turning out a daily twelve-hour marathon of dishes.
Prices are low, food is chilli-hot and service is quick, cheerful and courteous. It’s always busy so “Don’t be intimidated”: just sit down (don’t worry if you have to share a table) and start ordering.
Regulars bring their own drinks or stick to the exotic mango lassi, iced cool sweet lassi or fruit juices.
There is a wide range of vegetarian dishes ‘prepared under strict precautions’.
Great for takeaway.
