Police are looking for two suspects in connection with the robberies of an 89-year-old man and an 83-year-old woman in Croydon town centre.

The elderly man withdrew a quantity of cash from the Whitgift Centre’s Natwest Bank on July 9 at about 10.30am, before one of the suspects bumped into him in Sainsbury’s before running off. The victim checked his pocket and found the money had gone.

It is believed the suspect followed the elderly man from the bank to the shop.

The same suspects are linked to a similar offence that took place on July 7 in which the elderly woman withdrew cash from George Street’s Nationwide Bank at about 10.15am and was robbed in Surrey Street’s Iceland.

Detective constable Sheree Yates, from Croydon CID, said: “The elderly victim is extremely upset about what appears to be a targeted robbery.

"We are hopeful that somebody in the area at the time has seen something that could help us. We are also appealing to anyone who recognises the suspects from the CCTV footage to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information should contact Croydon CID via 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference 3820411/15.
