Glass bottles and jars make up about six per cent of Sutton's household waste.
They cannot be put into the green wheelie bins but should be taken to the nearest recycling centre.
When you recycle one glass bottle, you save the amount of energy needed to light a 100 watt bulb for four hours.
Sutton Council does provide a kerbside glass recycling service to a third of the borough's households and if you would like to check whether your address is receiving this service, call 020 8770 5070.
